Requests for obits from PB

Proposed guidelines:

GUIDELINES FOR RESPONDING TO REQUESTS FOR COPIES OF
OBITUARIES FROM THE PB

1) Verify that the person whose obituary is requested was from Rochester.

The requests states the person is from Minnesota
Check our local online obit index
Check the MN Death Index
Check the Social Security Death Index

2) The requestor must know within a week the date of death. If the requestor doesn’t know staff should check our obit index, the MN Death Index, and History Center databases. If no date is found reply to the requestor that they must come up with a more specific date.

3) If the date can be ascertained, give to Pam or Jerry to find and scan via e-mail or make a print copy.

5) We will mail for the cost of the copy and postage or we will scan and send via e-
mail for no cost.

Thank you for clarifying the policy/procedures.

Perhaps add: include the name of the newspaper and the date published if this information doesn't get included on the copy/scan. Ruth Ann and I recently had to look this information up again for a patron because it didn't get included the first time.

(another day, another user name)
